Review four new course requests from International Studies:
Present: Baker, Schoen, Lemberger, Mangum, Morgan
Committee reviewed four new course requests for International Studies
1. Intl St 615: Children & War – Approved with revisions:
- Change form to “2 2-hour classes”
- There was confusion over syllabus readings-
Recommendation: Clarify which readings are for what weeks to give an overall sense of how much reading is required for the course.
- Add Academic Integrity statement
2. Intl St 530: Comparative Communism: China and Russia – Sent back for revision:
- Change Distribution of Class Time/Contact Hrs to “2 2-hr classes”
- Provide justification for 5 credit hours (e.g. book review is optional – workload may not be appropriate for 5 cr hr course)
- Change course title on syllabus to match new course request form
- Replace Disability Statement with standard version
- Check boxes on request form for Honors, GEC, etc.
3. Intl St 533: Crime and Corruption in Contemporary Europe– Sent back for revision:
- Change title on syllabus to match course request form
- Provide clarification on when class will meet. If “2 1.5-hr classes” provide justification for 5 credit hours (if class time runs for 1 hr 48 min, that is considered a 2-hr class)
- Syllabus is for summer quarter-what would it look like in autumn?
- Grade scale should be “E”, not “F” – change in several places on syllabus
- Change Disability Statement to standard version
- Check boxes on request form for Honors, GEC, etc.
- Recommendation: Reconsider policy of no make-up exams
4. Intl St 550: Cultural Diplomacy – Sent back for revision:
- Course time listed as MW 9:30-11:18, but syllabus lists Fridays for “discussion.” If class also meets Friday, revise course time. If there are not Friday sessions, provide justification for 5 credit hr course.
- Check boxes on request form for Honors, GEC, etc.
