Topics Discussed
1) The state of the ASC Clusters proposal – waiting on CAA
2) Staffing eligibility for a Freshman Seminar – because of numerous requests from lecturers desiring to propose seminars, we discussed who is eligible. The Subcom looked at the guidelines, which clearly state the staffing must be “tenure-track faculty” – in line with the original Program goals to get freshmen in a small class with “real” faculty as opposed to TAs. The Subcom reiterated that non-tenure-track could be involved in the development and especially teaching portion of the seminars, but that a tenure-track faculty member must play the lead role.
3) Staffing eligibility for Professional Pathways – because of a Prof. Path proposal, the Subcom also went to the guidelines for the Prof. Path seminars that tenure-track faculty must play a role in the development of a Path seminar, but that it can become more of an oversight role than is the case with the Freshman Seminars.
