Subcommittee C
11/20/2007
UNAPPROVED
Present: Vasey, Berman, Bitters, Soundarajan, Lee
1. Approved the minutes from 10-30-07 meeting.
2. Political theory bundle – Approved with contingency
i. intro: accompanying Political Science major revision
ii. 210 & 211
a. Clarify the relationship between the existing 210 and the new version of 210 and the proposed 211. Specifically, the committee wondered if the rationale under which 210 originally received GEC status was still applicable given the proposed changes to that course.
b. Justification as to why the proposed 210 should retain GEC status. (please incorporate the GEC learning objectives, rationales, assessment plan in the syllabus)
c. Articulate who are the target populations are for 210 and 211.
d. Titles of 210 and 211 seem confusing. In particular, the title for 210 makes it sound like a topics course in which topic change from one iteration to the next.
iii. other courses: clarify whether students can take both courses in a pair, since the readings are exactly the same? (i.e. 470 & 670; 471 & 671). The higher level courses do not currently exclude students with credit for the lower number courses. If students can take both, please provide rationale. If students can’t take both, please submit course changes for the 600-level courses to exclude the 400-level courses.
* Mike will correspond with Bill Liddle and then communicate with Sub C.
Approve with contingency upon satisfactory of Chair’s inquiry. Yes: all No: none
3. Geo 410 – Sent back
i. intro- needs GEC categories consistent with GEO H410 (Social Science & Natural Science) or change the course number
ii. recommendations:
