A&H CCI Subcom approved with contingencies 6/2/09; follow-up email sent to W DeYoung, B Liddle, H Weisberg & D Gunther 6/4/09 res:

  • GEC rationale: Please include the most recent learning outcomes for this Diversity category & how the course achieves them in the syllabus and in the assessment plan.  C&AO to send most recent version, also posted on their websiteSuggestion: bullet point or number the outcomes in the syllabus, as this is unreadable in its current form
  • Assessment plan: Student performance is evaluated on a number of levels, including examinations and papers.  However, with lecture materials and required readings being a large portion of the class, and with no grade for participation or discussion, how will the effectiveness of the in-class meetings be assessed?  Please add this to the assessment plan.
  • Syllabus: While you provide the percentages that each assignment comprises of the final grade, please either include: 1) standard University grading scale (i.e., 100-94% A, 93.9-90% A-, etc) or 2) explicate that letter grades are given on assignments and those letter grades are weighted as the syllabus indicates to compute a student’s final grade.
  • Syllabus: Confusing statement: “All exams are cumulative, but weighted toward material not already covered.”  Obviously it appears you mean weighted towards material not already covered on the previous exam.  Please explicate this clearly for students, who could interpret this as exams are weighted towards material not covered during in-class discussions, etc.
