Rationale for change:

The changes to 732, 734, 736, and 738 are part of a larger “batch” of changes that we hope to submit to regularize our listing of prerequisites in all of our graduate offerings. As new courses have been added over the years, there has been a lack of uniformity. We wanted to clear up so that our listings in the Course Bulletin would be “cleaner”.

730 actually hasn't been taught in approximately 15 years. It was a course designed to give new MA students an overview to (Hispanic) linguistics. However, this course is essentially superfluous nowadays since our MA/PhD students all come in with at least some background in linguistics. If an applicant did not have any background, then he/she would not be accepted into the program, thereby eliminating the need for 730. So essentially, it can be said that we now assume the knowledge that 730 would give our students, and therefore no longer have a need for it in the program.
