Administrative | Revised course description and schedule received from Tony Mughan on 9/30/05. | October 03, 2005 |
Administrative | e-mail sent to Tony Mughan on 9/22/05: Dear Tony, Subcommittee A of the Arts & Sciences Committee on Curriculum & Instruction met
this morning to consider your new course request for Plant Pathology/
International Studies 455 Bioterrorism: An Overview. I'm happy to report that
your course proposal was approved, contingent on the following modifications:
a. Please clarify how the new course fits into major programs in Plant
Pathology and International Studies. For example, which majors will it count
for, and will it be a core course or an elective?
b. Some committee members felt that the wording of the Academic Accommodations
Statement suggests that accommodating a student's disability is up to the
instructor's discretion. To avoid any potential confusion, we're suggesting you
use the sample statement available on the ASC Curriculum Office's website:
c. Please give us an idea of how much reading students will be required to do.
It's not clear from the syllabus.
As a final point, we'd like to encourage you to consider having an embedded
Honors component in the course. I've attached a copy of the guidelines,
recently approved by CAA but note that these are the general guidelines that
Honors & Scholars proposed for the University; there are additional
restrictions for Arts and Sciences courses.
When you have a chance, send me an e-mail regarding points (a) and (b) along
with an updated syllabus. A copy of the syllabus should also go to Jennifer
Lando (lando.5). Once these modifications have been taken care of, we'll get
your proposal on the agenda of an ASCCI meeting. Once approved, it will move
on to CAA.
Let me know if you have questions about anything I've mentioned here. This is a
very exciting course and I suspect it will appeal to students from a wide range
of disciplines. Congratulations!
All the best,
Beth Hume
