AEE 342 seems to be a fine leadership course, and perhaps it should be taught as such--with no changes made to the course. Indeed, in the words of one committee member, this is a “well-structured course, with assignments and activities that suit the course objective,” which seems to focus on the study and development of individual leadership.

However, in its current form the course does not address the objectives of the Social Science: Individuals and Groups GEC category and does not specify how assessment information would be used to more closely fulfill those goals. If AEE 342 wants to obtain Social Science: Ind & Group GEC status, subcommittee invites unit to submit:

1. a revised version of the syllabus that explains more clearly how the course (including daily activities, readings, and graded assignments) addresses all three expected learning outcomes.
2. a revised assessment plan that specifically addresses the effectiveness of the course  in achieving the three expected learning outcomes over time.
