Administrative 3-29-10: Sent feedback about Subcommittee's contingencies and suggestions to M. Wright--see attachment below. Phone call from M. Wright to make necessary ECA changes: add exclusion or limiting clause: "Not open to students who are concurrently enrolled in ASC 338.05." bv March 29, 2010
Administrative 3-11-10: Rec'd M. Wright's answer:

Stephanie Moulton (Assistant Professor, Glenn School) has been consulting on this course with me.  In answer to the committee's question about speaker repetition:

We can't predict very well the paricular speakers who would speak in a particular quarter. That depends on how their own schedules mesh with the  class schedule and other similar issues.  What we would expect is that the course would have speakers representing the "types" of  nonprofit organizations (across missions such as education, social service, international-based, environmental, art/culture, foundations, as well as a range of sizes--corporate sized to grassroots).  We would expect that the course would be taught by different faculty who would also invite different specific speakers.

We think it would make sense if we set up an exclusion--that students who register for 337 cannot take 338.05 and vice versa.

Administrative

3-1-10: C. Okpalaoka sent feedback to M. Wright (bv):

“The CCI subcommittee for Interdisciplinary Initiatives met on Thursday, 2/25/10 and reviewed the proposal for ASC 337-Introduction to Non-profit organizations. The subcommittee would like some clarification.

  • Can a student be registered for both ASC 337 and ASC 338 at the same time? If so, they think it seems problematic to get credit for 2 courses that cover some identical material.

  • Would students registered for both classes be expected to do some additional work?  If not, what happens if a student takes ASC 338 first and then wants to register for ASC 337 – would the student already have heard the guest speakers?  Would that student be expected to do extra work to make-up for the overlap between 337 and 338?”
