4-14-10: J. Fredal sent feedback to J. Babcock (bv):

I'm pleased to inform you that your proposal for Social Work 220 to count for GEC credit under the Social Sciences: Human, Natural, and Economic Resources has been approved with contingency. The committee felt that the course met all the goals and expected learning outcomes of this category, but they felt that the assessment plan needed some revision.  Specifically they ask first that the assessment process should not be carried out solely by the instructor, as it appears to in the proposal. In many proposals, a department committee, or area or undergraduate studies committee reviews the assessment data and implements revisions to the course.  Also, the assessment plan should spell out how assessment data will be used to decide upon and implement any such course revisions. What feedback loop will be used to make changes to the course if assessment data suggest some learning outcomes are not being addrssed? Finally, the language of the proposal seems to suggest that the assessment process is measuring the performance of students in the course rather than measuring the course itself and how well it achieves its learning objectives.  A clear set of learning objectives, connected to the GEC learning outcomes and then also to the assessment data should help clarify several of these issues.
