11-16-12: No vote taken; ASCC requests the following:
-
The proposal should include (1) a list of minors that will satisfy the B.S. as well as (2) specific guidelines articulating the criteria for these minors and future minors to be included in the list. Furthermore, in a subsequent conversation that Steve Fink had with OAA it was clarified that: (A) the proposal should discuss all 10 separate tracks for the B.S. with the different science/technology minors (since not all minors will be appropriate for all 10 tracks) and (B) if new minors are subsequently added, these will require program changes.
-
The Committee would welcome a clarification (ultimately for students) about what distinguishes the B.S. from the B.A. (Consider adding more information to sharpen the distinction on page 13, #32 of the proposal).
-
Some issues with the 4-year plan were noted (see Mary Ellen Jenkin’s detailed e-mail—sent previously)
-
Clarify credit hours. There are several discrepancies within the proposal that need to be reviewed and corrected to provide consistency. Some examples include: (A) P. 12: “The B.S. in International Studies will be a 39-hour major (including the 12-hour minor).” The major alone would then only be 27 hours; (B) The GIS minor is a 15 hour minor rather than 12 hours (and would, according to pg. 12 of the proposal, make the major 24 hours); (C)The sample advising sheet for the Security and Intelligence B.S. states 30 hours as the minimum requirement for the major which is different from the hours stated in various locations in the proposal; (D)The Credit Hour Explanation chart on the curriculum.osu.edu will likely need to be adjusted; (E) If the minor is a requirement of the major, what will appear on the students’ transcript? This needs to be clarified with the Registrar to verify that the minor can appear as the unit wants it to: “B.S. in International Studies with a minor in...”
-
Sample advising sheet for the Security and Intelligence B.S.: #3 “Advanced Foreign Language” should instead be considered “additional foreign language” or “intermediate” because those are introductory courses rather than advanced courses.
