Notes
Administrative Change 18-character transcript title from "Rhythm and Blues Tradition" to "R&B and HIPHOP".  September 28, 2005
Contingency The request was approved y both the Arts and Humanities Curriculum Committees, with the following conditions:

-The syllabus should indicate that the course is 5 credit hours.
-The grading scale (i.e. A-/B+, B-/C+, etc.) is confusing.  D+ is missing from the grading scale.
-Clarify the fraction of time in which students are listening to the CDs.
- A calendar of due dates for assignments should be included on the syllabus.
-The 18 character title is too long.  We suggest dropping the ?to?s or changing the 18-character title to ?Rhythm and Blues?.
-The description was too long (we are limited to 25 words per the University Registrar).  An alternative description was suggested: "Examines aesthetic and historical evolution of Rhythm and Blues: Black music tradition including Bebop, Rock and Roll, and Hiphop, redefining American popular culture post WWII."
- Since this course is requesting GEC status, the Humanities Curriculum Committee suggests that the rationale for inclusion in the GEC be fleshed out.  In addition, the appropriate category that this course fulfills (Visual and Performing Arts and Social Diversity) should be listed on the syllabus, along with a brief statement about how this course fulfills the objectives of these GEC categories.  This will help facilitate approval at the next level.

A revised syllabus can be e-mailed to me, and let me know if the suggestions for description and 18-character title are satisfactory.  These courses will then need to be vetted by a subcommittee of the Arts and Sciences Committee on Curriculum and Instruction for GEC status.

E-mailed David Frego and Paulette Pierce 6/13/05.
