Administrative | The old syllabi for 684 and the new syllabi for 684 are virtually
identical. The requested increase in credit hours is based on the
length of time that we are now actually asking students to commit.
In the original version of 684 the course met from 9:30-11:30 TR to
rehearse the production and take the show on the road. As the shows have gotten more complex, school demand has increased, and more schools are having the students do mini-workshops or post-production, interactive discussions, the time demand has increased significantly. We now ask the students to register for 684 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm T/R (8 contact hours per week) plus as the show now opens the first weekend in February, for the first four weeks of Winter Quarter, they also attend three evening rehearsals per week for an additional 12 per week x 4 weeks = 48 contact hours. So with a potential total of 128 contact hours for the quarter, we feel that 5 credit hours better reflects the commitment that students are being asked to make.
I will gladly meet with any committee to clarify and justify this reality.
