Jessica and Joe,

Here is some information in preparation for your meeting next Wednesday. I apologize for some of the confusion on this course. It is my first attempt at starting a new course, and I am learning the system. In addition, we rushed things a bit because we knew there was a demand from the graduate students this summer, and we didn't want to miss that group of students. We currently have 21 students enrolled in Stat 694 for the summer quarter.

The number on this course was somewhat in flux as the Department was focusing in on the intended audience. It was changed from Stat 604 to Stat 504 after we met with Martha Garland and she indicated that she would like to see the course available to undergraduate honors students. Given the short time frame we knew we could not get the formal course (Stat 504) on the books by the summer. It is my understanding that we are using the number Stat 694 just for this summer, and maybe the fall, in order to get the course going. As soon as all of the approvals and paperwork are in place, it will officially become Stat 504.

The course is a four hour credit course that will meet twice a week in the summer. Right now it is scheduled on the books to meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 10-11:48.  I was told that we had to meet for 96 minutes per class, but I can adjust the class time to whatever the rules require.

The course is expected to be taught each quarter with one section per quarter.

There was not a purposful change in content between the 604 and 504 proposals. The 504 proposal should have been the more complete proposal.

I am attaching a tentative list of lecture topics for the course.

I hope this helps. I am looking forward to meeting with you next Wednesday.

Best Regards.

Tom Bishop

    5. Request for more info about what lectures will contain-  These will be sent to Jessica
    6. 96 min classes-  normally they are 78 min sessions-  a rationale for longer classes is needed
