  1. Course re-design
    1. Stat 135 redesign part of national initiative, NCAT established redesign alliance
    2. Start redesign with learning outcomes and increased use of technology
    3. Center for Academic Transformation (National Org funded by Pew)

                                                               i.      Has funds for redesigning lower-level courses

                                                             ii.      Includes defining course objectives, thinking about different modes of delivering (including technology)

                                                            iii.      Goal is to save instructional costs to free money for other departmental initiatives

    1. Dennis Pearl in Statistics redesigned Statistics 135

                                                               i.      Students take a learning styles survey and choose the method of learning that best fits them

                                                             ii.      As a result of the changes, retention has dramatically improved and achievement has increased, repeating students have dropped by ½

    1. Redesign Alliance

                                                               i.      OSU =  founding member

                                                             ii.      Randy on the national board

                                                            iii.      Dennis Pearl is a redesign scholar (talks to people at other institutions about how to go through process)

                                                           iv.      Seed funds available through OAA to redesign approximately 3 courses

                                                             v.      Priority to be given to STEM fields

                                                           vi.      Proposals should go through College office

                                                          vii.      Randy will send the CFAT web info so members can look at all of the proposals and reports

    1. 108 - 111, 212
    2. Concern that pre-req of Math 150 will be confusing to students, suggested that maybe upper 150s numbering series
    3. Question of why the EHE concurrence has a stipulation regarding the M. Ed.  Why do they want to keep the early childhood course?  Are they grandfathering in old courses?
    4. 212 syllabus mentions possible long term assignments or oral presentations but these are not listed any where else in the syllabus.

    2. Part of proposed Evolutionary Studies Minor
  4. Stat 504-  approved
    1. Suggested that maybe the philosophical foundations portion could be removed from course until concerns of members are straightened out
    2. Committee strongly suggests Tom and Ulrich meet and discuss
    3. Committee is concerned that historical info be presented in an even and balanced context
  5. Stat 742-  approved
    1. Increase in credit hours based on fact that they never can make it through all of the content
